The conflict at Peshawar University between two groups of Pakhtun Students Federation (PSF) and Islami Jamiat Tulba (IJT) on 14th February results in three injured students. The reason of the clash was the Valentine’s Day. PSF persisted to celebrate the Feast of St Valentine but IJT was against this act.
The members of Pakhtun Students Federation (PSF) backed by the Awami National Party (ANP) were celebrating the Valentine’s Day as the day of love with red balloons and cake. Meanwhile the members of Islami Jamiat Tulba (IJT) group backed by Jamaat-e-islami (JI) attacked them. The IJT group was against the Valentine’s Day considering it an un-Islamic event.
IJT were celebrating Haya Day on 14th February against the Valentine’s Day. Three rooms in a student dormitory were burnt; many students were there to throw stones on the rival, eventually leading to firing of gunshots from both the groups.
Local police official Fazlur Rehman said that three students got injuries during the quarrel and situation is under control. He added that we are in search of students involved in this attack to arrest them. He told that one of the injured students has a wound of gunshot to his hand.
Valentine’s Day is getting popularity among the youngsters; they celebrate this event by giving cards, gifts and chocolates to show their affection to their loved ones. But on the other side many a people are opposing this event considering it western import.
Peshawar is a conventional city of Pakistan where most of the women wear hijab and veils in open and very few girls go lone outside. Many terrorists groups including Taliban and Al Qaeda have focused around the areas of Peshawar for past many years and killing hundreds and thousands of people of Pakistan.
