After the storm of news and demands on media followed by the protests on roads, the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has taken the notice and ordered that private schools cannot increase their regular fee this year. After the statement by the prime minister, the Minster for Education and Professional Training along with the MNA Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudry briefed the media persons in a press conference.
Minister of State for Education and Professional Training Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rahman said that private schools would not be allowed to increase fees after the orders by the PM of the country and warned that if any school violate this order of the government, strict action will be taken by the concerned authorities.
The minister assured the parents that private schools management would not be allowed to increase the education fee for the year 2015. HE also added that the process of regular increase of fee would be made transparent in future as the rules and regulations were there to check the hike.
He said the that schools were raising their fees for many years, however, they would not be allowed to do so anymore without prior permission from Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA).The minister said that PEIRA has started functioning properly after recent issue and its temporary charge has been given to Joint Secretary Education Muhammad Junaid, to further improve its role and efficiency.
In the Sindh, the meeting was held some days before between provincial minister of Education and management of private school association, after which the minister said that only 10 % increase in fee has been allowed. The government was committed to ensuring quality education, adding that private schools were also ready to follow PEIRA rules in this regard briefed the minister to media.
Member National Assembly (PML-N) Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary said that about 50 per cent of children were studying in the private schools and a similar number of students were in government institutions. While appreciating the services of private schools for promoting education, he expressed the hope that these schools would also implement the decisions of the government.
No doubt, the government has taken the adequate action in this matter, the decision of prime minister for the completely denial in the increment of fee should be appreciated. There is suggestion that on the long term, the mater should be solved, PIERA is working but still the fee issue eventually came to this point when the respectable parents have to protest on roads against the school mafia. Apart from the school fee, the private schools also tease the parents by various other charges and events like color day, fun fair etc. These kinds of activities should also be checked.
Some schools are working in the rented houses, where the children don’t have sufficient place to sit and play, even that schools are charging in thousands. So, a proper inspection body and regular inspection under described pattern should be enforced.
