July 15th, 2018: Pakistan is ready to open its very first free university on this Independence Day (August 14th, 2018). The university is located in Kasur district 50 kilometers away from Lahore.
The executive director of Akhuwat, Mohammed Amjad Saqib, a microfinance company which offers interest free loans to the Pakistanis, has started this step to provide easy access to the higher education in the state.
The university is targeted at delivering the free education to the individuals who are unable to pay their academics expenses.
While talking about this step, Saqib said: “Education is the best solution to all the problems; we cannot advance and compete along with the international society unless we have a head start in education, however it is disastrous that a boy belonging to a poor family might be able to teach for ten years to follow however no higher education can follow. Simply, we do not do justice to our talent.”
This is a kind of varsity where twenty aspirants from every province will come to get free education. Presently, the varsity is offering admissions in pre-medical, pre-engineering as well as ICT groups.
It is mandatory for the aspirants to obtain 75% marks in matric annual exams to get admission in the university which will be followed by the entry test hold by the administration of Akhuwat University.
Moreover, currently the varsity is also accepting the donations for the poor community to get the education.
Akhuwat was set up earlier in 2001, along with an aim of offering interest-free loans to the poor mainly to improve their way of living. At the moment, it is largest microfinance institution in the country.
